Lights on popup not working

Has anyone had any problems with popup camper lights not working after connecting to a 2014 Ford Edge? Have gone around and around and both Ford Service department stated it was getting enough juice when checked and had Campers World check the popup and repaired a broken wire but no other problems found. Thought this would solve the problem, but still no lights to popup when connected to my vehicle. We had bought an adapter years ago which had a 4 pin connector for the vehicle and a 7 male pin adaptor for the camper which worked well for a while but then we ended up having to disconnect the car's battery and leave it disconnected for 10 minutes and when reconnected the lights on the popup would come on! Is there a fuse problem or a security issue that anyone knows about? It is frustrating because the Ford Service department cannot give me any answers and not getting to camp this summer.

Bottom line is that someone is going to have to make sure that all of the lines in the camper are getting both power supplied and a good ground connection to the Edge.

You are going to have to get a voltmeter and check voltage

Yes, this is the basics. Start there.

Another thing to consider is to check some Ford forums and ask if anyone has seen something similar. I don't know Fords, but I can tell you that on many GM trucks a bad flasher unit will behave like a bad ground. I went crazy one time just before a trip trying to find a similar problem to yours, even replaced the factory 7 pin connector. Only to find out that it was a bad flasher unit. Maybe Ford has a similar issue?
  • Right now you don't even know which end is the problem. Start by finding someone with a 7 pin and connect the popup to it and see if all the lights work.
Also check the 4 flat on the edge with a voltmeter and see what you get.
My guess is the Ford edge brain doesn't play nice with the 4 pin to 7 pin adapter (or the adapter is faulty). You may be out of luck unless you find a hack on internet.
  • First off, am I correct that you have a flat 4 connector on the Edge and a 7 pin round POL connector on the trailer with an adapter between the two? Why does the camper have a 7 pin connector? What functions might you be missing with the flat 4 connector only supplying running and brake lights. For starters, the battery charge circuit for the camper isn't working. Can you get someone to install a 7 pin round connector on the Edge and eliminate the adapter?

If you got the lights to come on by any method why are you asking for help? Did the lights fail again? Did you try the battery trick again? What were the results?
