The spools I used have worked very well for me. As far as cost. You should be able to get them for free from your local electric company.As far as surface area. You are correct. The do not cover all the way to the outside edge. The spools are assembled with long bolts. You could use the small spools for the base. Get one larger spool. Disassemble it for two larger tops. Then bolt with carriage bolts to the top of the smaller spool for more surface area. The carriage bolts provide a flat finish. So they will not damage the botton of the camper surface.Very strong, and stable. As my camper sits. I do use it while it is off the truck. Very cheap, however very strong stable platform.As I said the spools should be for free. We give them away at my utility.
