We have a 2013 2265 and like it very much! They are very light (towable with some small SUVs) and feature vacuum-bonded construction similar to the Evergreen brand, although they do have some wood.

Looking at GM online ordering specs http://www.gmfleetorderguide.com/ shows a 12000 lb GCWR. Truck manufactures use their own GCWR figures instead of adding truck and trailer GVWRs like dot does.

Use the weights calculator in GMs online ordering guide clicky. It gives the trucks actual trucks gross and front and rear axle weights with all options/packages chosen and it gives the actual tow rating for that package.
Some folks are still hung up with the '90 truck specs especially with the higher drive ratios with the new 6 speed trannies. The 3.08 with the new 6L80 has gear splits similar to the old 4L60E and 3.73 gears. The truck will handle 6800 lb just fine.

There are dozens of trailer mfg out here. Some sell nationally and some more local and some have different models sold in the east or west.

Take a look at the Rockwood Mini-Lites by Forest River. Excellent floor plans and seem to be well made.

Our Kodiak is a 27ft 6,000 lb dry weight (actual delivered weight). That puts it at about 7,000 loaded. Probably a bit too much for your truck. Kodiak makes some smaller ultralights too. We had a water issue when it was delivered, but perfect once that was fixed.

We bought a new 2013 Aspen Trail 2460RLS. At 6'2" I appreciate the 80" queen bed. With the slide out diskette and rear couch it has plenty of room for two people. We travel 10-12 weeks per year. Tow vehicle: 09 Yukon XL 5.3 6 spd; 3.42. 9-10 mpg.

We have a Skyline Koala 21CS...its been great. Since we have had the trailer, we have used it for many trips, in many areas, under many conditions. It has come through great!! Check them out

We went from a 28' 5th wheel down to a 17' Casita and I also have an old AWD Astro van I've set up as my one man camper. We really don't miss the big trailer, especially don't miss pulling it. Less can be more but a different mindset goes with it.

We spend so little time actually in the trailer, all I wanted was a comfy bed and wife wanted indoor plumbing. Only room for the two of us but that's fine. So easy to tow, stores in the yard, fiberglass shell means very few water leak issues (few seams). I move it around the yard with my lawn tractor. Maybe too spartan for your needs but the point is that less can be more.

There is definitely some trade off with less space but as space goes down, freedom goes up. Also cost is exponential to size (initial and maintenance cost).
