LP Tank Selector valve

Hey Guys,
Is it common for the selector valve on your LP tanks to go bad? I recently had both tanks filled, I keep the bottles turned off when not in use. Have only used the camper once since having them both filled. I just turned on the heat, the heater is working, however the "full indicator (red and green color) is showing red (empty) for both tanks, but the heat and stove top are working, so there is obviously gas in the tanks. Was wondering if the indicator can get stuck or go bad? Thanks for the help

    OP said the furnace was giving heat so there is plenty of propane.

    My indicator where the little red button slowly pops up was miserable since new. I felt like Linus in the pumpkin patch waiting for the great indicator to show red. This is why I recommend Cavagna... very clear and positive change from green to red.

    might be a broken indicator, but i wold do kind of as BobNDot said but with a slight twist.
    shut off tanks
    remove pigtails to relieve pressure at the tank
    connect pigtails
    open valves slowly
    flip or turn selector switch to point at each tank one at a time.

    Does the indicator go green?

    Maybe you opened the tanks too fast.

    You could shut off the tanks, then turn the stove on to drain off the line.
    Then open the gas valves slowly . Some people turn off the tanks and remove each hose to re-set it, then replace the hoses, then open the valve slowly.

    I turned the left tank bottle on, switch was pointed to left tank. Indicator never turned green. Switched to right tank, turned bottle on, stayed red. But all the gas appliances work at the same time.

    Just curious, but did you actually move the selector knob from one tank to the other? On mine, once the auto switch happens the indicator turns red, it doesn’t turn green again until I rotate the knob to the full tank.

    Worth a try.

    I replaced mine because the red color barely showed, when empty. New replacement (same model) does exactly the same color wise, can barely see. If yours still works irregardless of color I'd leave it alone. Got me one of those hand held wand checkers and problem solved.
