Manual Tongue Jack question
I just replaced our Atwood power jack that burnt out with a BAL manual crank tongue jack. For $200 I can live with the manual crank, as our old Cherokee was manual crank.
Now, my question is this. When I contacted my local Jayco dealer about the replacement jack the parts guy told me the BAL jack that I was buying is what came stock on those Jayco trailers that didn't have power units. It's a 2000 lb. capacity jack.
Now, I run an Equalizer brand hitch and when you hook up the WD/sway bars it's easier to do so when you couple the truck and then raise the entire rear end of the truck and the trailer tongue while coupled together.
I'm positive on our old Cherokee it was a 2000 lb. tongue jack too...and we ran and Equalizer with that and towed with an Excursion. That's not much (if any) lighter than the F350 we're using now.
I'm probably overthinking this, but I'm curious if I should go with the 5,000 lb jack or if I'm just worrying about nothing.
The tongue weight on our Eagle when loaded is around 1250 lbs. FWIW
