Many Questions?

Hi to all. I plan to buy a used tt from 8k - 14k cash, and live in it with a 150+ lb. dog.I might have an occasional guest or two for an overnight fishing trip.I might purchase a lot , or rent. I need to park truck, tt, 25' boat, and car full time. I will not be traveling much (maybe none) but it will be nice to be able to.
There are so many makes, year, models, floor plans, lengths, ect. It is overwhelming.I plan to work on /near the water. I want to see how it works out before a more permanent commitment, or it may be permanent.
Any advice would be helpful!
My tow vehical is a hd 3/4 ton with 600+ hp, and 700ish lbs. of torque. It has a new fuel injected 525ci motor, manual 5,speed which is more than enough for whatever.
Thanks!

The truck motor was specifically designed to pull my boat up, and down big hills effortlessly? I would not have shucked out 15k without much research!
With a very long stroke, and many cubes, and fuel injection, the motor will not have a radical disposition. It will not be tame either. The cam was specifically fabricated by Competition Cams to pull weight. All paticulars were given to them for design by request.
I have towed vehicals all over this country almost.
A hellcat is obviously not suited to pull; it is a hp motor - high rev, but it will pull - It doesn't have the suspension. My transmission, and rear were specifically designed for tow applications.
This thread is not about the tow vehicle but about a perspective humble abode.
The reason I mentioned the power was to assure everyone I had enough.
I am leaning towards smaller, newer, but not brand new so tow capacity is moot.

    Get off your "high horse"..

There ARE many other important factors concerning towing than just shear raw HP and torque.

Just because you have 500, 700, 1,000 HP it doesn't exactly mean you can pull anything SAFELY.

In reality it takes VERY LITTLE HP and torque to tow..

Too much HP/torque can make it all too easy to get your rear wheels out from under your control and that will be a bad thing.

Perhaps you NEED to start with the FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS like the vehicle GVWR, GROSS AXLE WEIGHTS, UNLADEN WEIGHT AND THE AVAILABLE CARGO WEIGHT.

NOTHING you have done or modded to the engine OR suspension can change the factory specifications, those mods just make it handle the weight WITHIN the factory specs BETTER (in some cases you mods may have made your vehicle LESS STABLE).

I would not even think about pulling a trailer with an engine with that much modification. There is no certification available for tow specs. A Chrysler hell cat has over 700 HP and it won't pull your trailer across the street. Maybe start by reading many posts and searching topics that will get you pointed in a right direction. BTW HP is always the result The formula result of Torque and RPM's.

Wow, that's quite an interesting comment. Why would you not think about pulling a trailer with that much modification? Do you think modification = less reliable? Could be, but that's all about the builder. I could argue that a highly modified engine could be more reliable than one built at the factory, given quality parts and a quality builder were used. Of course a Hell Cat couldn't pull it; it has no payload capacity. I would say a 3/4 ton has a bit more payload than a Hell Cat... ;)

  • You have to take my builders word for it like me. You can easily get 1000 hp out of a 460; bored, stroked, and racing parts. I had the motor built for torque. Hp is a consequence. I spent 15k.
F250 hd 4x4 (basically 1, ton )I will be in foremost southern, md. Hope to make money on the water fishing. I can work on boats, and houses too.Trophy striped bass fishing goes to the end of December. Starts again in March. I have a place to park my boat in the off season.
    I will winter in md.
Im looking for pointers: size, brand, what to look for. I will probably buy from Beckleys Thurmount md - large selection, close. Biggest thing is whether to buy a lot. I have a year. Thanks!
  • its all about payload my friend. that said im sure you will have lots of options. get out there and look at as many as possible. good luck.
