Once in a while we have a mouse that steals the bait or trips the trap before getting caught. My solution has been to crimp a very small piece of cloth into the little metal part on the trap where you put the peanut butter. The crimped metal holds the cloth which does a better job of holding the peanut butter...they tend to chew the cloth and whammo!
I always keep a few traps in the rig when it is stored and check regularly. I also think they use the power cord and spray mine with silicone.
