Microwave in your A Frame camper ?....

I have noticed that the microwave is mounted very low to the floor on the Aliner's A frame. has anyone decided to just put the microwave on the counter instead.... then remove to secure it for travel.

i have not yet really seen a Chalet A Frame so i cant comment on the placement of that microwave. it just seems that it would be so difficult to deal with the microwave when it was mounted nearly on the level of the floor.

i wouldnt mind taking it off the counter and securing it for travel.

just wondering what everyone else was doing.
thanks.

  • Counter space is a precious commodity in an A-Frame so the less I have to put on top of the counter, the neater the inside is.

For me - Living in an A-Frame for a few days or more requires organization and tidiness or I will drive myself crazy with not finding things easily. Small spaces don't seem so small when all things have a place.

I don't mind the microwave in the lower cabinet. It's not that big a deal. I used it alot the first year & in the second year of ownership, I actually began using the interior stove to cook on as well. All the worries about cooking odors or heat and such were for naught.

Our micro is under the counter height so the walls can fold. In a high wall unit the micro could be even higher. Our micro is maybe 18" above the floor, it works and requires no extra setup.

I don't understand why you would want to stow away an appliance and get it out again every stop. Seems like a lot more work than simply bending over a little to use a permanently installed one. Why make camping harder than necessary?

A-frame campers fold, its a fact, due to that there are compromises.

I do use the microwave alot to make certain things that i need to eat. its an appliance i have to have.
in order to see into the unit as its cooking i would just about have to get down on the floor. its about using it with ease. putting it away for traveling is a small price to pay for being able to use it when i am standing up. i am not overweight and have no problems getting down on the floor but i just would rather not have to when i need to use it.

i eat ALOT... and i eat all the time... so cooking is a necessity for me so i dont spend tons of money eating out.

i will also be taking my crock pot with me as well. i will be needing to spend alot of time in the camper so i want to make it as comfortable as i can.

  • Currently, we keep and use the microwave in the cabinet underneath the sink, above the Cool Cat.

Prior to that, the microwave traveled on the floor and was placed on the counter when set up.

Under the sink works well for us.

I do the same thing in my off-road POPUP. I have a neat shelf arrangement that will sit on one large cabinet top after I setup. Then I stick the micowave, coffee maker, HDTV set etc all in this area.

This is the shelf above our fridge cabinet on the floor...

This is our seating arrangement and behind that is a non-used tent bed area where we store our day time catch-all stuff

The two of us sleeps on the other end of the POPUP trailer.

When we are in travel mode it all sits in the aisle. There isnt much room to even stick a hand into the opened up space hehe...

All part of the game of utilizing space for us POPUP users...

We are very comfortable and of course like to eat and sit around the firepit outside. The inside is where we sleep and watch alittle HDTV when the need hits us...

This is my floor plan so you can see we didn't have alot or room to work with. The table shown here is not used as a table. It is part of the wrap around seating. We eat siting in the wrap around seating or outside in the patio area.

I also have a full blown RADIO setup for my ham radio OPS. All components are hide somewhere and remoted to a control panel where I have my microphones and speakers and control panels.

You can get the idea here from this floor plan showing where items are located.

When the grandkids comes with us they sleep outside in a TENT.

  • the MW in my ascend A171RD is also mounted low. I have to stoop down to see the numbers. sort of a pain, but not enough to mess around moving things.
