- bnardiniExplorerThe one time I used a mobile RV repairman he charged $75.00 just to show up. I figured that was tip enough!
- 2012ColemanExplorer IIAll these rules about tipping - not sure where they come from... I have a friend who tips the garbage man (men). He feels they deserve it, and let me tell you, he is well taken care of - you know how things can be left for you on garbage day. Anyway, if you feel like tipping, I say go for it. you will likely be goven favored or priority service in the future. Tips don't need to be monetary - cool drinks as mentioned are great. I always make sure the AC guy havs somethng cool to drink during service calls.
- seaeagle2ExplorerI'm a residential HVAC service tech, we very rarely get offered tips, and normally I tell people that good feedback is a big deal to me. I would say in mainstream American culture "professional skilled techs" aren't expecting a tip, and unlike waitstaff, our compensation doesn't assume that there will be tips to boost our wage up to a livable level. That being said, an offer of a cold drink is always appreciated on a hot day.....:)
- hddeckerExplorerA tip would be in order if he looked after another concern, that was not part of the original work order.
If he is there for warranty he is getting paid time and mileage, if he is there on non warranty work he is charging you time and mileage.
I would offer him something to drink and eat if he is there over the lunch hour, as well the use of the facilities.
A tradesman is not generally someone that gets tipped, that said I had a situation last year where I had the tire shop guys go way above and beyond what I expected, I wasn't about to tip each one of the guys $20. I spoke to the owner and asked if they were all adults and as they were I said I'll be back with a few adult beverages for after work. He said that was not required, their policy was to look after the visitors first, I was floored one of the locals came in to pick up his car. Guess what it wasn't ready yet because I came along, his response was oh sorry you got problems we'll have you on your way quick. - NorfolkCountyExplorerI think SprinkerMan has it right. -- JMO
- SprinklerManExplorerI am in the repair business , I charge port to port , so if you need work done , and you live 5 hours away , your bill starts at 10 hours plus the time for the repair . Doesnt matter whether its me as the owner or I send a guy , price is the same . I dont expect tips , and usually turn them down , but cold soda is always appreciated , I always have food since I dont know If I can stop for lunch .
- fallsriderExplorerI don't tip my local mobile guy. But then again, none of my work so far has been of an emergency nature. He worked me in as his schedule allowed. However, if he came out on a Sunday morning to our site to fix an urgent problem, that would be different.
One thing I do is throw him some of my parts and supply business. I buy my caulk through him, have bought a fridge roof vent, control module for the water heater, etc. - JJBIRISHExplorerI would tip almost anyone that did a really good job for me, regardless of their profession… I am not tipping for the work done, but how well and efficiently, neat and cleanly it had been done, how friendly and courteous the worker was…
Often they won’t except it and I am not offended if they don’t, and never had the occasion where I felt anyone was offended for the offer… - ShavanoExplorerKnock off the flaming before the thread gets locked please.
Thanks

I don't tip people for doing their job,(except wait staff.)
If they do something extra, I always tip.
