The side awning was badly mounted on my camper. The mounting bracket was installed over the rain gutter. The bracket screws went through the gutter into the camper!I tried caulking around the screws but don't trust it to not weep into the camper. It rained the last few days and now the gutter is holding water dammed up by the screws and caulk.I drilled a small 3/16-inch weep hole for now to let out the water.The weep hole is now about 1-inch to the right of the screws.My thought is to drill a bigger hole but I can't think of how to channel or drain water away from the camper. Any ideas or suggestions on how to modify or fix this delima are appreciated. . . Photos: Close view:

I’d probably ask the manufacturer. You could consider marking the lag screw, pulling it, and filing off the threads and putting it back being careful with how much sealant you use.

I was thinking more along the lines of drilling a big hole in the gutter floor and somehow attaching a drain tube.Maybe a gutter below the gutter? You got me thinking now. . .

Does the bracket perform a function that it cant be lowered? too easy...Is the profile inside of it as shown on outside? curved. If not think a simple u shaped bracket,inside bracket, legs down, shorter screws into camper one leg, nut&bolt other leg thru gutter/bracket.

Our last TT was built that way too. It had to be gooped up with silicone which tended to block the gutter flow. I don't think there's any way around it once it's built that way. Really stupid!

My rear awning is similarly mounted but I have enough clearance to allow the water to drain under the bolt. I clean around where the bolt screws though the back of the gutter and re-caulk, making sure not to get it down in the gutter.

The bolt does catch debris sometimes, where it has to be manually cleaned out but it doesn't usually hold water.

I think the difference may be that my bolts go through the top pair of holes.

If you could still hit the framing, maybe you could move your bolts to the top holes.

Build a bridge..

Even simpler single angle, matching inside width of bracket

Hardest part from I see from here is getting long enough screw into camper due to width of gutter, likely cut tip for more thread engagement, retaper slightly (hole already thread cut so don't need full taper). Run lag thru angle into camper, pumping holes fill of caulk. Then nut & bolt thru gutter/bracket then angle and bracket top.

I have the same awning attachement. they screwed up your mounting. the screws should go under your gutter not through it. there is space between the bottom of the gutter and the top of the awning slot for them to go

I had a travel trailer where someone installed the awning improperly with the same results you have...There was two ways to go about it,take it to an RV shop and roll the dice to a permanent fix or red neck it and goo it heavily and re-screw...I chose to goo it/re-screw and it worked without another leak but I was never happy worrying about it leaking again.

In this case, silicone yearly to the spot worked as advertised!
