My rear awning is similarly mounted but I have enough clearance to allow the water to drain under the bolt. I clean around where the bolt screws though the back of the gutter and re-caulk, making sure not to get it down in the gutter.
The bolt does catch debris sometimes, where it has to be manually cleaned out but it doesn't usually hold water.
I think the difference may be that my bolts go through the top pair of holes.
If you could still hit the framing, maybe you could move your bolts to the top holes.
