Just can't wait for the day when six of these trucks pull into the campground and all plug in on one leg/spur of electric supply. All of the campers that lose their A/C because the EV's killed the electric.....just might cause an uprising.
No need to wait. It happened a few weeks ago in Texas. And this is with what; 2% of total electric cars? :Ewomps wrote:
L3 under construction at Pioneer Middle School.
I’m not an anti electric vehicle person. Actually almost bought the Mustang Mach E GT. Biggest reason I didn’t is the lack of level 3 chargers in my area which is central Alberta. My daughter lives in Walla Walla Washington, population 34,000 and lots of tourists because of its many wineries. There are 0 level 3 charging stations in Walla Walla. I’m guessing there’s many more cities all over with the same story.
Otherwise a good 30 miles to Payton or Pendleton.
Or LaQuinta Inn has L2 for overnight.

And of course I assume Daughter's home has electricity....Turtle n Peeps wrote:

Did you read the article?
Sure did. I fact let me quote the very first line:Tesla has told users in Texas not to charge their cars during a heat wave
The OP article said this:Motor Trend wrote:
Remember when I talked about Energy Density and towing?
Until someone figures out how to double or triple the energy density of lithium-ion batteries, that seems like the most we can ask of electric vehicles that are pressed into towing duty.
Just like I said, there is a problem with the grid with just 1 to 2% of electric cars. Even Tesla knows it and they did the right thing by begging people to not charge their cars during certain times or the grid would crash.
And these are cars with small batteries. Just think what will happen if there was 5 or 10% of electric big rigs in Texas sucking off of the electric grid teat. :E
By the way. We now know why TFL didn't tow a travel trailer to Alaska.
And before anybody starts sniveling and whining let me make this reminder: This is an RV site for RV related topics. And this is the TOW VEHICAL forum where we discuss tow vehicles.
If you think this is a cool truck that will work great as a people mover......cool.......go to a soccer moms dot com forum and you will more than likely be welcomed with open arms. Home Depo forums would work with this truck too.
Remember, this is a tow vehicle form where we discuss vehicles that tow. This truck is an "epic fail" at towing, so be it. Same way if someone came on this forum and said they want to tow their new 30 foot travel trailer with their 2022 Corvette I'm going to say, bad idea and your car will suck at towing.
I'm not saying a 2022 Vett sucks. I'm saying it sucks at towing......just exactly like this truck.
soccer moms dot.com forum = LOL
Sniveling = LMAO

Well, if you had read beyond the first line you would have seen "ERCOT recommends that people in Texas avoid running appliances between 2pm and 8pm." In case that isn't clear, EVs were in the same boat as washing machines and dishwashers. So Tesla stepped up, encouraged their owners to charge off peak and gave discounts to do so. Whirlpool might have done the same if they were as well connected to their customers. You mentioned "Tusk" three times. Have no idea what that is.:h FWIW,I agree with you that there is little point in discussing this truck on an RV forum. I doubt any buyers are planning to pull trailers.shelbyfv wrote:

As long as someone is willing to pay for more, whether they ever use it or not, they will sell them more.

Did you read the article? They also asked that folks not use "appliances" during that peak 2PM-8PM period. FWIW, it's well known that Texas has completely screwed up it's electrical system. Heat or cold doesn't seem to matter. I don't know about "alarmist" but there probably is a name for someone who doesn't know when to stay in his lane.:Stime2roll wrote:

Tesla and Tusk said don't charge your electric car. Too much load on the grid.
Remember when I said this was happening and I was called an alarmist and I was called all sorts of names on RV.net? I do. :B
Looks like even Tusk agrees with me. :B
BTW, thanks Tusk for doing this. I would have been bad news for people that depend on medical machines or people that need AC to stay alive and well. - blt2skiModeratorLike ALL things great and small, this will work for some, the other 90%,it won't work.
I can say the same about a 35seried dually, even a certain species class 8 has limits for some.
Get over folks. It's a tool. Just because I find a 6oz tack hammer to be the best thing since sliced bread, doesn't mean it always the best hammer to have, hence why you can buy them to upwards of 10 lb heads lat I looked.

The ICE is only 120 years old. That’s still new technology in the grand scheme of things. To introduce a new type of power will take another 100 years to perfect. Until then you can not mandate something that is only effective for 20% of the population!
I am not an advocate for EV's - mainly because they aren't really the green silver bullet the hype would have us to believe.
But I think you have it backwards, I think they are not effective for 20% of the population but a very viable product for the other 80%. Most people don't tow or haul big loads, or even go 100 miles/day.
And last I heard, no one is mandating anything.
If it were viable for 80% of the population then there would be far more on the road! As a road trip vehicle even not towing, the time it takes to stop and charge makes them unattractive.
Maybe not mandating it, but when the government wants a certain percentage of vehicles to be electric by a certain time then that is mandating it with out actually mandating it!
Sigh...
Just because something is viable for the larger majority doesn't mean the larger majority buys everything viable. And I am not sure how they would get more of these trucks on the road yet, as orders are already sold out on pre-sales.
What you said was that these trucks are only effective for 20% of the population. And that's just not accurate. Unless you have some supporting data for that claim. They offer the same relative effectiveness that most consumers use their ICE f150's today. They don't tow, or camp or anything you think of when you use a truck. Or me for that matter. They're grocery getters.
BTW - I am in no way a supporter of EV's. Tesla has gotten billions from the wallets of taxpayers in the form of subsidies and pumped up stock. He is now the world's richest man and it's not from selling Teslas. EV's are not green. Contrary - they have a host of ecologically damaging impacts not the least of which is mining materials, manufacture, disposal of used batteries and energy production to charge batteries. But we aren't talking about that. We are talking about a product consumers can use, will use and will buy to use. I think the fact that Ford quickly sold out on these units, including pre-production orders is proof on concept. They may not meet your needs, but your needs aren't what most consumers buy these trucks for - despite that they are marketed that way.
