My 12V was LOUD pulling 6 percent grades West Coast. We had to basically yell at each other. The 15 towing 23K and combined 33K is VERY quiet to where we can just talk normally. Yes you can hear the engine but it is no way loud. To compare to a 12V or 2nd gen 24V is not a fair comparison, not even close!
24V win hands down and some of the Fords. I not sure if it was the 7.3 or 6.0, but they run a close second.
I ran a BHAF for several years before getting tried of the turbo noise in the cab, praticlually in the passengers seat.
Chris
Yea I ran the BIG pro guard 7 conical filter with silencer ring removed. Also had the 4" turbo back exhaust with zero restriction.
No wonder you guys think the new ones are quiet after running those rigs. I don't know how you could stand it. Like I said, the clatter never bothered me. The low frequency drone does. Taking away the clatter didn't change anything for me. I ran mine without the silencer ring. I liked to hear the turbo. Ran it without the snorkel once and the cider jug hoot from the intake about made my skull crack. Wife couldn't even hear it. Daughter said she wouldn't ride in it again like that. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

Six in a row, you are ready to tow. Eight in a V, you probably sit down to pee. j/k ;) - transamz9Explorer

I like the turbo sound. That's the sound of things getting ready to happen. :B - Me_AgainExplorer III

If you want the Ford, buy the Ford. But don't base it off the noise, especially when you haven't driven the new trucks.
Andre and Kent seemed to notice the noise difference in the brand new trucks. 60db is normal conversation level. 75db is shop vac level.
GIVE ME A BREAK!!!
If you are talking about my 98 12V I would agree.
One break coming up.

You are still living in the past. I had a bombed 2001.5 24V for 14 years and know what a noisy diesel truck sounds like.
Chris
The post in the link points out that the 12v Cummins produced 72db at 60mph towing his boat. The newest Cummins produced 71db at 70mph towing the gooseneck in the test. Not much difference in real volume but a huge difference in perceived volume with the clatter gone. You can quiet the clatter but, you can't quiet the low frequency noise. To those who talk at 140db, the new one is silent. To them, the 12v and ISBe 24v wasn't objectionably loud either. They probably don't even hear the 250hz drone. I deal with this at work with low frequency noise resonating through concrete buildings keeping people awake. Half the people can't even hear it. To those who can, it's loud and annoying. I can hear it so I can identify the problem and fix it. Chrysler has been trying for years with vibration dampeners in their trucks.
71db while climbing the Ike Gauntlet towing 23k lbs. That is definitely a worst case scenario. I find my 2016 Ram very quiet while towing through the mountains(only towing 9-10k though).
I have no issues carrying on conversations with my 4 year old soft spoken daughter in the back seat while towing. All the new trucks are pretty darn quiet. - rhagfoExplorer III

Most likely the 72db was towing the boat on the flat, the Ike is at near full power working hard.
My current 2001 is not very loud when towing the 5er on the flat either, once it is working pulling a grade it does speak up a bit.
The build sheet states extra sound deadening. - 4x4ordExplorer IIIWhen the fuel guzzling diesels are replaced with electric the trucks will be quiet.
