mpg does it matter

So here is my question will mpg and price of fuel make a difference in your trip plans. Why are we so concerned about this issue. the difference between 9..5 and 11 mpg is 54 miles which would cost about $ 20 per tank. Is this enough to make you change your plans. If not then why is it such an issue? We easily save this amount by not eating out as much and motel rooms which allows us to go more frequently. Really just curious
  • Yes the cost of fuel impacts our travel plans. It does not cause us to cancel, but makes me think about going some places a bit closer and not farther.

I just returned from a 5300 5 week trip with a V-10 stayed at 27 RV parks. Only check mpg once, wish it was cheaper and better mpg, but the only way to solve it is make more money. We may go for another 15,000 miles or so this year. Save your money when you are young, invest it well. Burn all the gas you can before someone else get it. Get a coal furance at home and burn gas on the road.
  • In truth. The high price of fuel has a greater effect on your normal everyday life than it does on your vacation. While the extra $1.50 per gallon does hit you hard when towing. It hit's harder on you every day commute. A month worth of gas was $85.00, Now it's $170.00. So the high prices are taking money out of the economy, and holding it back.

It's easier to find an extra $80.00 for a vacation, Than it is an extra $85.00 per month to get to work.
  • Don't worry about it at all.

We carry 300 gallons and when I fill up I just look at it as buying fuel futures.

We get 8.5 to 9.5 MPG and we can easily run 2,500 miles between fuel stops so I stop based on cheapest price along the route.
  • We still go but we do drive slower now. We can improve our mpg 20 to 25% by driving 62 mpg. I don't mind a couple extra hours to get there to save a couple hundred dollars.
  • I agree. We all want the best milege we can acheive, but I think sometimes it gets to be a little of a OCD problem. Drive, camp, enjoy, and if it is a big issue, if you can, go someplace close. We are lucky. We have a place a couple of miles from where I store the MH that is astate park in the woods. It's fun and close if we just want a cheap get a way. But, I do understand budgets. It's not all the same for all.
  • I've got about 8 years left that my kids will want to make family memories with us. No time to worry about da gas. :)
  • Price of fuel has never caused any change in my travel plans. Once you have around 60,000.00 invested in an RV it's just not rational to let a few extra bucks in fuel stop you from using it. If it does you probably can't afford to be RVing in the first place. OF course those extra bucks would be next to NOTHING if you want to just camp in your own neighborhood as many do.
  • Nope. We will travel regardless. The threads where people talk about fuel mileage kill me. Its a truck/suv pulling a huge parachute, of course you arent going to get good mileage. I will always have a big truck because I like them. Sure I wish my truck got 25mpg pulling 10k lbs, but Im happy with 10 and wont stop camping or change plans due to price of fuel or mpg
