GM has not had near the number of reported CP4.2 failures that Ford has had.

So how do you know they have had less, neither is going to tell how many failures are occurring. Ford however was included in the NHTSA investigation of the CP4.1 on the VW's. So they are providing those numbers to the feds.

GM is just quietly fixing them. So people are not coming on the web and reporting how GM screwed them by blaming the problem on the users fueling.

This is why people should run from the 6.0. No they are not all bad. But ifg you get caught with a bad one you are totally screwed. Why things have quieted down in recent years, These 6.0 stories still occur.
No I don't expect Ford to warranty a 10 year old truck but I do expect Ford to make a truck to last 10 without a catastrophic failure.
Notice the OP wrote no chips,garage kept, maintenance completed.
No answers/help/support from Ford. These are well known issues at this point.

Simply put this story is why after 15 years and 2 trucks I no longer own a Ford.
I could not take a chance that I would be the one left with no answers and a big bill.

My 2005 6.0 blew head gaskets around the same miles after a couple years of ownership. 5k fix which ford took care of. Traded off for Duramax been happy ever sense.

Not all were bad, I would guess less than 10%, maybe even less than 5%, but based on sales that is a huge number of failed engines.

Sorry I could not respond before now I have been workin. Now to clear up a few things, he is the original owner, he ordered it from ford, no chip or any other mods of any kind, something let go and the block is not salvagable. The truck has been garaged since day one! the ford dealer recomends a remaned engine. There is no reason this should have hapened! Then it not just sad....IT SUX...Big time. If it was me, I would not replace it with another 6.0L.

It may be less expensive to swap in a 7.3 and ZF 6-speed, from a '99-'03 truck, than to do the Cummins swap. The 7.3/6-speed swap should be much easier, with no custom parts or adapters involved, since it was all factory stuff pre-'04 and the '99-'03 trucks are the same as the '04's, less the 6.0 and 5R110.
