Need advise on which new truck - 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton?

My 2500 wieghs 4800 lbs empty. So some of us are not worried about where I can or can not drive. My swag would be, that said roads have not been designed per say to handle the wieght on a day to day basis of larger vehicles. Or they just plain don't want big trucks unless they are doing a delivery or equal on it.
More than one way right or wrongly to look at this.
