need feedback on Jayco trailers

Wife and I have been out of rv'ing for a couple of years now. We are looking to replace a 2002 Sportsmen that was sold a couple of years ago. We are looking at a couple of new Jayco bumper pull trailers,. Any feedback on Jayco and/ or Lone Star RV in Houston is appreciated. THe trailer that we sold a while back wàO.K., but it seems that I spent a lot of time caulking and keeping leaks fixed... Thanks in advance for your time !
  • They make a good trailer it's not some superior trailer like some would have you believe but I didn't have many problems with mine
  • We have a Jayco Jayflight G2 33RLDS and we have had some minor issue but all in all it is a very solid trailer
  • I had a co-worker that turned my wife and I into first time TT buyers. He and his DW bought a new 2012 Jayco 26BH and they had a minor water leak the first year and some minor issues the dealer corrected under warranty. The leak was from bad caulking around a clearance light. We bought our 2013 26BH new and I've only had minor issues that I corrected myself...nothing that I've had to return to the dealer in over 2 years. I think the Jay Flight series are a great value for the cost!
  • I love my Jayco. I researched brands for YEARS before we bought. I went to at least 6 or 9 RV shows during those times and tried out every major line of trailers. The Jayco continually seemed the most solid, offered the best standard features and had the best designs for that price point.

I never got in a Jayco where the floor flexed or the stairs groaned. I never found a Jayco that had cabinets that couldn't be opened all the way. Other brands/lines had issues that I didn't like. The Jayco was consistently the best in that price point.

We bought our Jayco and took delivery earlier this spring. There are a couple minor issues that we will get fixed in the offseason, but that seems to be the industry standard unfortunately. Having a 2 year warranty makes me less stressed about finding and fixing everything immediately.

ANY RV can and WILL leak, it's just the way it is.

If your looking for a "leak proof" or "perfect built" RV then forget about buying another.

You know the drill, you will need to periodically check and replace the caulking as it ages.

Can't help you on Jaycos other than I see lots of them in campgrounds.. Lone Star, well never heard of that one but I suspect that is a regional thing..
  • After belonging to RV.net for several years now and reading hundreds and hundreds to posts about all types of campers, in my opinion, based upon all the various comments, Jayco is about as good as any other. They all have problems sometimes, and sometimes problems are caused by owners. Sometimes folks attempt to do things with their campers, which they are not designed to do and they end up voiding warranties, tearing something up, or simply overextend something that breaks. No fault of the camper there.

I always said, if a chair is designed to sit a 100 pound person, and 1000 pound person sits on it and it breaks, you can't blame the chair! It wasn't designed for 1000 pounds!

Same is true for any camper. Attempt to put an elephant in the door of most campers, and I don't think you're going to make it. Does that make the camper bad or a manufacturer defect? No. So it is with most Jaycos. (any brand for that matter). Use them for the purpose they are designed ("RECREATION"), take care of them and don't let them go down hill (service, cleanliness, and anything that be showing signs of age or stress ... fix it immediately), and Jayco's are a good bread. Lots of folks have them... LOTS! There must be something "good" about them!

Can't answer about the second question about Loanstar RV. I advise check the Better Business Bureau and do some Internet searches on "Loanstar RV complaints" ... and see what comes up.

Doesn't mean anything if it's simply bolting sub-assemblies in place. And assembly speed has little to do with quality.

That being said, we looked at Jayco - seems to be middle of the road. There are better and there are worse. Our only issue with them was the lack of counter space in their kitchens.

They have one of the longest warranties in the business. You don't do 2 years if you are building junk.
