Need help on what tires to get
Apologies if the has been asked thousands of times or more. I tried a forum search which didn't really help.
We had a nail in one of our truck tires and we ended up at a Les Schwab near the CG we're at. They said the tires on our F250 are basically at the end of their life and need replacing which I kinda knew anyway. We are several hundred miles from home and have decided we should probably replace them now.
When it comes to truck tires, I haven't a clue. We have 18" rims. We were at a local Les Schwab and they recommended a Continetal and a Toyo tire and something called Wild Country in the $1200 - $1500 range (ouch). We're looking for something mostly for towing as we don't use the truck a lot around town and hardly at all in the winter.
They also recommended "siping" the tires which I've never heard of before. They put the tires in a machine, spin them and make little slices in the tires. It's supposed to improve the life. Don't like the sounds of it...
What would be top choices for us? IIRC, Michelin is recommended? What about tread width or profile? Our current tires are rated 80 psi max. which is what I run them at. Are they all going to be rated 80 psi in the size we need?
