I towed a Rockwood 8313SS with my 2001 F150. The camper loaded was around 8000 lbs. I used the equalizer hitch and really watched what I put in the bed. I knew it was back there and it was heavy, I have traded up to a F250 now.
Things I put in the back were grill, firewood (loaded it up closer to cab), kids bikes. Most everything else I tried to distribute in the trailer. With your payload you will have to be careful of how much you put in. It is doable just have to get the right trailer.
It can be very nerve racking in figuring out,the right trailer for, your family. But when you do it will bring you many years of enjoyment. We are all here to help answer your questions.
