Handye9, thanks for the post!
I looked up what a weight distribution hitch is. I don't have that. Is that imperative to have? It got me thinking about my hitch weight and rating so I checked under the receiver on the back and saw that my weight limit is
MGTW MTW
WD 10,500 1050
weight carrying 5000 500
Can you send me a link of a wd? I'm not entirely sure what i'm looking for.
What those receiver ratings are telling you: your hitch receiver has a max weight rating of (Max Gross Trailer Weight) 5000lb trailer and 500 lb tongue weight, without WD hitch, and 10500 lb trailer / 1050 lbs tongue wieght, with a WD hitch.
When you hang, let's say 800 lbs tongue weight on your back end, it takes weight off your front axle and points your headlights up in the air. The weight distribution hitch, transfers some of that weight back to the trailer axles, and some of it forward to your front axle. Thus, restoring some of the lost weight on your drive axle. If your front axle is too lite, it will take away some stability. IE: it can cause trailer sway issues.
Take a look at etrailer.com. You can see pictures and descriptions of the many different brands they carry. Some may be the same as those offered by your local dealers.
There are many different makes and models of WD hitches. Do a search, here on the forum, you'll find many threads, discussing the various brands. You'll want to select one that is rated for a little more weight than what your loaded trailer tongue weighs.
