I am just stopping by the TOWING forum, which has become WEENIE truck land. Where on the TOWING forum, we advocate for the slowest truck with the least power, and have determined that in spite of industry data to prove otherwise, most folks use their trucks exclusively to pick up groceries. Cue the twilight zone soundtrack.
Or the reality, that many half tons do split duty, part time empty, part time overloaded. And much of the time not being driven gently or slowly. Making underpowered trucks that require a $200 service, and fuel that costs 50% the dumbest possible option I can think of.
North Dakota Fuel Price.
Gasoline $1.99
Diesel $2.95
Even if you only want a grocery getter, you don't need a 6000# one that burns fuel that is 50% more.
Do we really need power windows, leather, sun roof, aluminum wheels, carpet on the floors, heated and a/c seats.........
Why did you have to quote that Troll? But now that you did, WTF are you talking about $200 service? If you are one of the uninformed haters that feels they need to spread lies please start your own thread to do it.
FYI you can buy an 8 oil service package from Mopar that gets the cost down to $46.88 (do the math Troll Boy) per oil change, that beats the Ecoboosts oil change! Full Euro 100% synthetic oil (Pennzoil), filter, lube, tire rotation and top off all fluids. A far cry from $200.

Is the paint or liner nice and clean or does it look like a working trucks bed? Most 150/1500 sold will be boulevard cruisers, only to be used occasionally to haul or tow.
This is an RV Forum so everyone tows with their trucks! But there are a few guys on the MH forum that use pickups as a toad. Not sure why but this is America and they can do what they want!
I have 4WD but will go four wheeling like I used to back in the day. I have it for use in the snow but there are plenty of guys that pay $48,000+ on a 4X4 and then take it off roading. I just don't have that kind of expendable income.

Because they don't want a load of firewood, dirt, gravel, cobble stones, etc

My 1980 Silverado is called into service often by them...they do NOT use their

Other neighbors with real pickup trucks either won't, or the 07 K2500HD
Duramax is a contractor who always has construction tools or a load

them off for a special run for them...and...the other neighbors have
Fashion Statement half tons and won't do it for fear of scratching their

Dang! Life is good! :B
My neighbors FX4 F250 has a cap on it, guess who get asked to help move "tall" stuff ;) - BenKExplorerOh...another example...

the sales, therefore the base features & options of TV's...be they pickups, SUVs,
CUVs and to some degree...vans
This portal filters down to those who TOW something
Step back and while reading lots of threads..."Fashion Statement"...is a very,
very common theme
Then...'some' of them decide to TOW and the questions that leads to my opinion
that they just bought, or have owned the BIGGEST vehicle that they have EVER owned
and are hell bent on making it work as a TV for the 'Fashion Statement' humongo
trailer...no matter Fiver or Tonged
Example is my Real-estate Broker/Property manager of my rentals...he loved riding
in my GMT400 K3500 Suburban. Loved the neck snapping acceleration when an other
SUV challenged me while we were checking out a potential purchase
So much so, that he went out and bought a '06 GMT800 K1500 Suburban...then he noticed
that mine was taller than his while parked next to each other in his parking lot
So the next day he went out and ordered a lift kit and I didn't know about this
till the next month's normal visit where I parked next to his.
Bragging that now his is bigger...he could not understand that his was still
a 7,400 GVWR vs my 8,600 GVWR...that mine was still 'bigger' in capacity
Next were his 20's...now that his wheel wells were not filled like mine were.
He is one of the folks I've talked to about scratching the side of his TV from
the headlamps to the tail lights..."why would I do that?"...then ask him why he
ordered the 4x4 option...he just checked every option box because he can afford
to.
But...I'm happy that he is happy with his 'SUV'...even though he is one of the
'Fashion Statement Crowd'. No beef with him, but with the OEM's marketing department
which now limits what I want in a TV because the $$$$ of vast majority of buyers
don't care...nor even understand the TV aspect that we here on this forum (now
generally speaking...many of the Fashion Statement Crowd are now members too)
is all about
No longer 'all about', as many threads now dwell on bling, MPG, 20's,
etc...and less on the true TV capacities of TOWING...
PS...I landed here because on my other forums...many were referencing
advice here...asking me what does that mean, or is that true... - mich800Explorer

X2. And for those that don't believe it, do your own experiement. Tomorrow on your way to work, count the number of 1500 series trucks that are hauling nothing but air vs the number of 1500 trucks that have something in their bed or on the hitch.
And, I do agree that the economics might not make sense right now with the price per gallon of diesel vs gas, but this is about CAFE ratings for Chrysler and the emotional side of a car purchase for the buyer. For many, it feels a lot better to look at their MPG reading and see 29 vs 20.
Tried that last summer. About 80 trucks in 8 miles on the way home one afternoon. None towing, 2 hauling; washer/dryer & a work site tool box & the other 78 EMPTY. Pretty telling to me how the majority of trucks are being used today.
Proves nothing ,only that they are used for commuting .
.................
Am I missing something? I thought that was the point we were trying to make.
I think the point was that most half tons are not purchased to do work (hauling/towing). But the hypothesis is somewhat flawed if you are counting empty boxes as a proxy for the vehicle doing work. Most of the orange county pickups I see driving around here have nothing in them also but that does not mean they don't at some time. - boocoodinkydowExplorer

Now make the same observation in a campground
Campground is what proves absolutely nothing. Only a very small % of people go camping.
