I would certainly try to go without WD. There are cases to be made where WD has some stability disadvantages, so why use it if it is not needed? I agree with posters that claim the truck should ride better with a little weight in the rear. God knows the engine is plenty for the front axle, but pick-ups begin too light in the rear.
I don't have a mudflap favorite, but I know the disgust of slush thrown up on the running boards without something. While you are at it, you might consider some wheel well fender trim. In my older Fords, the Excursion was already more than missing a lot of fender-well lip paint from constant gravel chipping. One area had already started to rust through! I blasted and sealed the rust (POR), then added stainless steel "eyebrows" to stop this insidious process. I found some locally, but here is a link to the type product.
My F-250 already had some SS trim on, and the fender-well paint is still intact, but I am thinking of adding a rubber strip between the SS trim and exposed recessed edges to protect the last exposed paint edge.
There is an interesting (and very unusual) new 20K 5th wheel hitch from PullRite that easily leaves the bed free and the assembly only weighs 52 pounds, easily lifted by one man. The PullRite link is here and a short YouTube video here. PullRite is a very respected all-USA hitch manufacturer (Indiana). Having a shortbed, I had been considering their automatic Superglide if I ever got a 5th wheel.
