- opnspacesNavigator IINice looking truck. That body style brings back some memories
- spoon059Explorer IINice! That's a sharp looking truck. I like the slight lift and big tires too! My first truck was a 1995 F150 with dual gas tanks, 4.9 straight 6 with manual transmission. Gas was under a dollar a gallon, on payday Fridays I would fill both tanks (around 40 gallons if I remember) and still had gas to last me until the next paycheck!
Lucky boy for a first vehicle! Hope you keep that paint scheme!!! - Grit_dogNavigatorThanks again guys.
Benk, thanks for the heads up the fuel tank valve / switch currently work well and that sounds like good insurance that it doesn’t ingest something from the tank.
Has 2 filters downstream of the valve , the one that comes on the electric fuel pump. (It’s a genV 454 with a carb, no mechanical fuel pump capability on that engine. )
Upper filter is clear glass and it’s clean but the lower one could catch stuff. Might explain why the newish looking electric pump lost pressure right off the bat. Just replaced. - Grit_dogNavigator

Very nice! Luv it. How many miles on it?
Is that yours?
Yes it is.
Says 63k miles, not verifiable, but it’s possible it’s original miles based on a few things. Never know though.
Fun project ahead after we drive it for a while.
Haven’t done any sort of resto or resto mod in a long time. - Thats 1 awesome looking Chebby. ! ! Love it..They just don't make that like that anymore . .
I had an "80" step side... almost identical colors..
Only issue I ever had was the selinoide that switched the gauge from passenger tank to drivers tank kept failing..... caused me to run dry once or twice
Good Luck and Happy tinkering - BenKExplorerLearned this during the discovery period trying to fix a constant carburetor filter plugging up from fuel tank debris. Ditto the fuel gauge would bounce around for one side vs the other side
That valve has a fall back when not energized. Energized, the valve would switch sides
Can't remember now, a 50/50 thing getting it right or wrong which side has the energized or non-energized...
Learned to always use the energized side and run it dry. Stumbles and switched it on the fly to the non-energized side...fun with new friends riding along...stumble and announce we ran out of gas...to their comments...lean over and hit the switch and magically the fuel gauge rose to full...
Then look to fill up promptly...or as long as 20 gallons in the other tank would last...
Still have an extra valve somewhere...bought one thinking it was going bad when it was debris from the tank
Also, the hoses around that valve are bent in an extremely tight radius and cracks over time. That took a while to figure out where the gas leak was from...thought the valve initially, but in changing the valve out...one of the hoses broke in my hands. Totally keeping it original paint scheme! It’ll match the build sheet on the glove box. Nice part is the door jambs, firewall and dash are so clean they don’t even need re-painted. Bed is going to get painted not bed liner, as well. It’s real straight as well.
But I’m a sucker for white center stripes on square body’s and 67-72s. So thinking I’ll paint it like it is now and then maybe vinyl wrap over the dark blue center stripe and maybe the cab also in white!
Think it’s a 4” lift. Rear is on blocks not springs.
35s , which is what’s on it now, with normal offset have plenty of clearance in front at full lock. Actually 37s would fit also. For now I like the 35 look and it’s “ok” at highway speeds.
With the 4.10s it’s at about 2700 rpms at 65mph. No way I’m re-gearing it though. It pulls pretty well. It’s just a toy not a Daily.
Love the older F Series too!
Nows the time to start collecting the cars I wish I had or wish I hadn’t sold! - Grit_dogNavigator

I had a ‘80 Blazer back in the day. But it was a beater plow truck. One side was beautiful Like new, the other side you could stick your arm or leg thru the rust holes! It must’ve been in a bad accident right before it started rusting out and the whole passenger side replaced?
Have had a bunch of square body’s in years past. None recently. From rust bucket beaters to resto projects.
Best one was a ‘74 K5. Clean body full removeable top. Good starter for a project.
Had to sell it when we moved - Grit_dogNavigator

I missed a silver 76 K10 stepside I woulda bought a couple weeks ago. Beautiful trucks. - Grit_dogNavigatorBen, imma do some reading on the tank switches. I recall them failing back in the day but. Never personally dealt w one yet.
Very interesting.
Plus the Fuel gauge works great, reads both tanks but as soon as it comes off full, it bounces constantly with the tank sloshing. Both senders act the same.
I may pick your brain on the tank switches once I understand what your saying bout energized and fall back.
I will bulletproof the fuel system in the near future. I’m sure all the hoses etc underneath are 35 years old.
