New license plate for my TC.

Texas requires plates front and back. Texas considers a truck camper as cargo. No plates for cargo.
If I was hauling dope I might worry about it, but I ain't. I'll argue the point with a LEO or the nearest fence post.

I’m not pretending anything of the sort. Anyone who would arrive at that conclusion is using pretty tortured logic imho. It’s clearly NOT a license plate. Doesn’t look like one, and would never pass for one. It’s for my convenience only. Saves me from bending over.

Plates to be unobstructed
3.03 A number plate must be kept entirely unobstructed and free from dirt or foreign material, so that the numbers and letters on it may be plainly seen and read at all times and so that the numbers and letters may be accurately photographed using a speed monitoring device or traffic light safety device prescribed under section 83.1 of the Act.

That makes nearly all trailers illegal, certainly all fifth wheels. Make sure you stop frequently to remove bugs or snow/ice accumulation.

Maybe mine, but if I were cavalier about it, I wouldn’t have put the tag number on the campers bumper.

AR has a similar ordinance, but it’s not physically possible for me to comply with the letter of the law with my camper on the truck, so I made a good faith effort to comply with the spirit. The camper hangs lower than the tag on the rear bumper. AR is a “one tag” state, and the tag goes on the rear of the vehicle the tag is for. No front tags for vehicles up to 14K. AR doesn’t tag truck campers. It’s not like you can’t see it at all, you just have to bend way down to see it.

I’m not sure what post you are responding to, but many states have a front and rear plate. So, even though one might be obscured, the second one is not.

Well, I wouldn’t be too cavalier about it. This is the wording from BC Motor Vehicles Act. I would think most states would be the same. LEO’s probably don’t bother unless there is a reason, but if push comes to shove, then they can nail you for not having a plate visible.

I put a plate in the holder that is the shape of Montana with MT in it. I’m hoping that explains to the cops why my TC doesn’t have a normal plate. When I lived in WA, the TC had it’s own plate. They have them for most states.
