Maxxis Warranty
I recently had a Maxxis tire start to separate while out on a trip. I contacted Discount tire and they said they could get me a new Maxxis by the next day at noon. When I went to have the new tire mounted I noticed it was over a year old. Discount assured me that they would warranty the tire 5yrs from the date of purchase. I had the manager note it on the receipt and sign it. Upon returning home, I called Discount tire main headquarters customer service line and complained about the tire being over a year old. I got the same assurance that the warranty starts on the date of purchase, and that this was a common occurence.
I looked at the date code on the tire that failed and it was over 5 yrs old and of course I no longer had the receipt from my neighborhood tire dealer where I originally purchased that tire. I loaded it in my truck anyway and took it to where I purchased it. He had my info from the original purchase and there was only a few months left on the 5th year. He took the tire and confirmed that the belts were starting to separate, contacted Maxxis, and his tire distributor to verify warranty. He called me within a couple of days and said he had a new tire there and I only owed $34.00. I asked how on earth could it only be $34 and he said they go by the tread wear and mine still had most of the tread.
So to make a long story short, the warranty starts on the date of purchase. If there is no receipt for proof of purchase date, or the dealer you purchased from is no longer in business, that leaves you with the date the tire was manufactured to retain warranty. I realize that is not how it is worded on the Maxxis web site and I'm not sure why. I can only assume that is in the case of the latter.
