Thanks Rehoppe, (heheh, I never know what name to use or part of)
I was going through the same thing as stated in the first post.
I just sold my Tear Drop, luved it and it was perfect for the dive/campout part of life, but when that changed to the ORV thing I had do a restart and then try to figure out which way to go, without having to Restart again.
Here's where I'm at now, I modified the first post to keep it up to date.
RAM 5500 Diesel Dually Trdsmn Cab-Chassis, Crew Cab, 4x4, long bed, .
(extras, Allum flat bed, front bumper, 16.5 winch, extra fuel w/22gal.
So Why?
More versatile.
Off Roading(ORV) can and will take me to places that a toy hauler won't go. 5th wheel was out, luv 'em but can't pull'em up a curvy, dirt road easily and then how to I tow the buggy/ies.
Flatbed allows me to do the above and grow into it as I can't just write one check for the whole package. No Lotto this time.
Truck & flat bed will allow me to haul buggy around and do the motel/tent camping until I get the TC, AF 990.
When I get the AF990, I'll have to get the cargo trailer for the buggy.
But wait, there's more...
I kept running into the question, with a toy hauler (TH) on how to get the buggy to a distant staging area. Take the TH, not... heheh, thus the flat-bed. Easy-peasy...
Pull into campsite with AF and Cargo trailer.
Off load the AF from Flat bed, load buggy on Flat bed and good to go, anywhere for a day's ride.
Reverse process and I'm back on the road again,
Loaded and tied, ready to ride...
So, that's my solution and of course can be adjusted in size to fit whatever the budget can stand.
All this is not to say, it's going to happen, just that it's what is planned. I could get to the dealer and end up with something a little less "Beastly" (but I doubt it) heheh, coming from a little mid-sized Chev Colorado and Tear Drop trailer, it's going into "Beast Mode".
I have a Condo, underwater - value to loan, in Seattle, WA that I'm waiting to sell when I can pay off the VA loan and move down to Central Oregon, Bend/La Pine/Prineville or NE Nevada somewhere, Winnemucca, Elko, Wells, not much else out there.
Quad with a Tear Drop, heheh yup, I gave it a thought too... but getting too old to fight aka "put up with" the Rain-Wind-Dust when they're all working the same 24-hr shift.. TD get's a little smaller come dinner time...
Hope that helps.. it drove me Knutts too, so hopefully this might help focus.
Thanks for the Offer Rehoppe, once I git'er going I'll be off and running. CO has/had a big ORV rally there past year that I want to do in that big park down there, SW corner...
Happy Trails,
frank
With luck, the end result:

fun...
