Newbie-Opinions on Truck/Camper (F150)

Hi

I am new to truck campers and at the moment am sitting in Peru hunting for a truck and camper for Patagonia.

I have found a 2001 f150 and Saguaro camper from 1999 details at the following:

I tried to find some details on the camper and couldn't find anything. Googling just takes me to the advertisement.

Can anyone help me as to what a camper like this is worth i think the truck is in the 5-6k range.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Gemma

  • I had a Saguaro camper once. It wasn't all that well built and it weighed way more than what the factory claimed.

Note that this camper has no toilet or shower.
  • Much better! Couple of observations. @1200lbs dry weight you will end up over 2000 lbs wet...so you will be pretty far over your payload capacity. That will be, and no doubt has been, tough on the truck's suspension. You can see some squat in the picture. This rig will not be fun to drive. Plan on needing some suspension upgrades. Second, notice that the camper is longer than the truck's bed. That means that the center of gravity is off and that puts more weight on the rear. Makes the drive even less fun. Not sure what kind of selection you have to shop from, but I'd pass on this one. I started out with a very similar rig, except the truck was almost new. Worked OK on freeway travel but I would never have taken in on rough roads. Now if you could score that camper with a bigger truck... However is half of the $12K price is for the camper it is overpriced by $2-3K.
  • I'm not a tc'er, but maybe with a little bump someone will be able to help. I will say that a 150 will severely limit your choices due to payload capacity. Good luck!
