With your limited wish list, you may be able to find everything you need in a smaller (24ft) trailer. Which could open up the half ton crew can truck market for you. Some of the newer crew cabs have cavernous rear seats, enough for any size car seat to fit.
This brings up a very good point, I was thinking with a TT I was not going to be able to even look at a 1/2 ton, assuming most trailers are similar loaded, any suggestions on what the max dry weight I can look at as far as some typical 1/2 tons out there? That would open my options up greatly, and I would definitely sacrifice some of my "wants" on the TT later on to make it easy to get into a suitable vehicle sooner.
I'm not shopping trucks but I would think a used 3/4 ton CC is as easily available as a newer used 1/2 ton CC. Towing mileage is going to about the same with both. Vans I've driven are even worse with mpg but they have been always loaded.
A deal-spoiler may be that you get a 1/2 ton and the missus picks out the "must have" unit after many days of shopping and carrying bored kids. You are the guy that will have to tell her it's 100 lbs. over the maximum weights for your truck.
If none of that applies or you're dead set on 1/2 ton hauling, the most important specification is the payload rating. Don't get confused with the GCWR, you'll never approach that before running out of payload.
