An improvement for sure but the downside is that plug won't be as well sealed against water intrusion as was the original which was molded on to the cable at the time of manufacture. The alternative is to buy a cable with the Bargman plug already molded on to the cable - 8' long and about $65 Cdn at any Ontario RV dealer.
I also installed some wire that will later terminate in a switch that will control the trailer running lights when not plugged into the tow vehicle.
Handy, but handier if you build a Trailer Lights Dongle (3 pics) into which you can simply plug the trailer's Bargman connector and be able to turn on the trailer's running lights OR have them flash which is really useful when backing into your driveway off a busy street.
