Newer diesel with least problems

Which one of the builders has the diesel and the DEF on opposite sides of the truck? that would be a deal breaker for me, you'd have to turn the vehicle around when fueling, what a pain.

Concerns about DEF systems are often misguided, I know mine were. The rig in my sig line has been trouble free and the tail pipe at 88,000 miles is about as clean now as it was when new. One pet peeve is the tank level that only reads “OK” until it drops to about 30%, then a warning indicates that you have approximately 600-800 miles left before the dreaded downgraded performance kicks in. Hopefully GM has addressed this on newer models. Never been a problem, just carry a 2.5 gal box of DEF if traveling off the grid (not near an auto parts store or Walmart) to keep you going. Another peeve is the DRW model in 2013 did not have an oem TPMS. Aftermarket are ok, but I’d much prefer a factory system. Our 3500 has been bullet proof, tons of power to pull our 2.5 ton AF up hills, cruise control coupled with the exhaust brake make traveling in the mountains a breeze. Very happy with our diesel and never say never, but I’m never going back to a gas rig if hauling a TC.

Would people drive 60 mpg diesels here 20-30 years ago, like Europeans did, SOMEBODY would have much smaller checking account.
Now economy changed, fuel get expensive and Fiat 500 is taking over this country

Fiat is actually failing, sales are awful.. Not exactly taking over.

Most diesels are ok now even with emissions, but they still aren't perfect.

I have my sights set on an F350 SRW 6.7 crew cab in Lariat flavor with 8' bed, and for the most part am a GM guy. I have been half assed playing around on the phone and net and have found I can get that model substantially less than the Silverado LTZ or Sierra SLT 3500 and it will have a ton more bells and whistles.

Its **** hard to even find a GM anywhere with the Crew Cab, Duramax, and 8' bed unless its white and an LT or base Sierra trim, at least around here.

I wish I still had my 7.3L. I had a 2011 Ford 6.7. Nothing but trouble. Thought it was a lemon. Bought a new 2016 and at 14,000 miles the fuel pump started shredding metal throughout and the entire fuel system is in the process of being replaced. Turns out Fords and Chevys use a high pressure fuel pump that is a weak link. Also the Ford turbo is weak. If you run a programmer the engine puts out so much power it will blow the turbo right off the motor. That happened on my 2011. And I heard bad things about durability of the Dodge trucks over 100k so all I can offer is keep what you've got. If I wouldn't have totaled my 2000 7.3 with 275k on it, I'd still be driving it. It wasn't fast and it wasn't quiet but it didn't break down.

Hauling a truck camper while towing the land yacht cargo trailer I use is so effortless with my 2009 Duramax.

Mine has been trouble free, but I only have 52k miles on it.

"New" vs "Trustworthy" Take your pick.

My experience is with Ford's. 05 250 with 6.0 replaced injectors at 64k miles then deleted egr sold with 134k.
08 450 dually with 6.4, replaced a sensor on exhaust on back of motor, maybe 40k miles. I was pulling FW on interstate around Pittsburgh when it went into limp mode. Sold with 64k miles.
12 350 with 6.7 never had any engine issues other than serpentine belt traded in Feb with 100k miles.
Currently have 16 350 with 6.7 with 10k miles. Best so far especially with the exhaust break. Biggest problem I have with the 6.7 is that I can't keep tires on the rear to last more than 20k miles.

That beside the fact that for last 15 years US manufacturers managed to fit 300 + HP diesels in pickups and that sure changed the picture from older less, than 200 hp diesels.
The old "stink, noise and vibration" doesn't apply to diesels anymore

2011 F350 with the 6.7. I bought it used with 89,000 miles. It had a oil leak at the turbo bed plate that I had fixed. I now have 110,000 on it and it runs great. only other things I have done are oil and filter changes and one radiator flush
