Followup to my earlier comment about why Nissan might have changed the frontal area spec from 60sq ft to 30 sq ft.
I was going to type out a very long reply, but I know how these arguments go on this forum, so I'll pass. Having said that, it's fairly clear to me the change in their spec is related to J2807. The most recent copy of the standard I have is the year 2012 revision. I no longer have access to these standards ( I'm retired now ) without paying for them myself, so I don't know if the standard has been revised again since then ( I'm not going to spend my own money to get access to SAE documentation ).
I can also guess that it might be something of a misprint in the newer owner manual since the 30 sq ft limit applies to the test protocol of the 3500 pound limit of the 4 cylinder truck. The over 6K pound limit of the V6 4.0 litre truck would place it in the "55 sq ft" category of the standard. So in other words, my reading of it that if they are going state the over 6K limit trucks are j2807 compliant, they would have to say they "55 sq ft".
I'll leave it at that.
Mike is correct the new owner manual is different from the owner manual for my 2006. My apologies to him.
For what it's worth, J2807 is interesting reading, and many agree it's a good first step in standardizing towing capabilities. There are some, shall we say, interesting discussions about it in the industry.
