I wonder if everyone would agree with the term "stole". According to the agreement, Fiat cannot use Chrysler funds unless the companies are fully merged. If 100% ownership doesn't already mean Fiat is responsible for Chrysler's pension and other obligations, a merger surely will and the owners will be the shareholders of the merged company wherever they live.
Marchionne has bet the existence of both names on building a healthy Chrysler.
True...but he talking about bringing models in from overseas to do it.
However, most companies build the same model in multiple markets. For example, Ford employs Polish or Ukranian labor to build Focus' in Europe. I read a funny story about Honda now being a net exporter... from the US to Japan. Story Clicky.. Chevrolet builds its spark in Korea as well I believe. Hopefully Marchionne will bring some more manufacturing to some old Chrysler factories and bring back some US manufacturing. If the Japanese can build a cost savings for it, I'm sure the Italians may find a way. I'm still bitter about how Daimler destroyed what was once a very budding Chrysler. They took all the money and sucked Chrysler dry to float their European operations at the time. I just worry that the same may happen with Fiat, but Marchionne has surprised me so far.
