I guess Fred Diaz at Nissan one upped RAM and is now able to say "Nissan is Class Leading".
Now the Nissan boys can put the big Cummins sticker on their rear window and hopefully have the matching flip up mirrors to boot!
Most of the Japanese have entered into the US Pickup market in a fairly half hearted way as these models are not part of their core global business.
Nissan had two options :Lose face and withdraw or make a bigger splash. They went for the later.
Toyota is now "last man standing" its Tundra line is the smallest of the US Fullzize Pickups in sales and the Tacoma is a rehashed and watered down version of the old Hilux Surf. Presently it is more concerned about overtaking Ford in the US market for overall sales.
The Tundra is not the smallest in U.S. full size pickup sales, Nissan is.
As of Aug.1st Nissan sold a grand total of 10,020 Titans, Toyota sold 61,385 Tundras.
As for the Tacoma, their only competition is the Frontier, Toyota Tacoma sales are up 21.1%, Frontier sales are down .2%.
So far this year 95,070 Tacomas were sold vrs. 34,931 Frontiers.
