Got to love the way some people take one component and think it makes a truck. The engine is but one component without the other components you has a worthless chunk on cast iron.
As far as this country goes we still are not paying what everyone else is paying for fuel. So we don't seem to care if our vehicles get crappy fuel mileage. We just want to get to the camp ground faster then the other guy! Want this backed up with facts OK then.
1: Speed limits are being raised across the nation. Mich wants to raise it's speed limit to 80 miles per hour! :E Never mind they have some of the crappiest roads around!
2: The EPA keeps adding fuel robbing emissions to engines to clean the air. Wrong again, robbing Peter to pay Paul. You burn more fuel so in turn more fuel needs to be processed causing even more pollution not only to the air but to the land and water!
3: The Auto industry keeps upping HP ratings causing mileage to suffer. Think if they put an 8 speed in my truck what the fuel mileage would be! I can make 27-28 all day long empty on the highway. Tuck in behind a big truck at 60 MPH and I'm over 30 MPG add a tail wind and 32MPG. Add a 8 speed and I bet it would run 35 MPG on it's own. I had a 1998 Jetta TDi that would make 42 MPG with diesel costing less then a buck a gallon!
Being first over the Eisenhower pass is the reason people want to have 625 HP and 810 TQ in a truck towing a 15,000# trailer. Not being able to tow a load.
Look up the specs of the average OTR tractor and see what it has for HP and TQ moving loads of 30,000,40,000 and up to 80,000#. Nothing near what these little pickups have!
But hay as long as yours is bigger then mine right?
Don
NOTE: My truck is a pre emissions truck, 2WD, 3:77 final gear ratio. In other words a MPG KING
