OK, quick story. I had a Chevy 6.0L for almost 3 years and then when we parked the TT on a permanent lot, I didn't need a 3/4 on. Then bought a Sierra 1500. It's a fine truck, just really miss the bigness of the 3/4 ton platform.So seeing that I am obsessed with trucks, I started looking again. Came across some pretty good deals on a Nissan with the 5.0L.Now, I don't need a diesel. I only tow a few times per year. But the deals on these things are pretty solid, so it got me thinking.I do take a lot of short trips in the winter, definitely a big strike against a diesel. But in the summer, we get up the lake frequently, so that is good for a diesel.So what say you? Yea or nay?

I think it's a good truck if the price is right.Beware the low-ish payloads compared to most 3/4-tons. Besides that, it'll pull better since it's has more torque at the low-end compared to your 6.0 now.I haven't heard of any emissions systems complaints. The smaller displacements might help keep it from producing as many particulates and hence requiring regens. But I still wouldn't try doing much extended idling.

I'm a nay. It has a CP4 pump in it, plus timing chains, and the initial long term tests I saw on it seemed to feature quite a few issues. I don't think the cost is enough lower than it's bigger brother to be worth the downgrade in capability and the 6.7 is a more proven engine.

The biggest problem seems to be dealer lack of knowledge to fix the issues and mechanics who have no experience with diesels.My coworker has one. Got a good deal as it was “new” old stock that the dealer was having difficulty selling. Its a daily in town driver that does no towing or heavy work so I can’t comment on that. He was stranded twice this past winter when it wouldn’t start in the cold. He can’t plug it in at work or in his parking garage. Dealer was no help.

The 5.0 cummins is probably not any worse than the current 6.7 cummins as they both have a CP4.2 pumps.

Them not selling well is also a concern. Not popular = good deal now = probably not a good trade in value down the road.

Looked at a Titan forum, and not much activity there.

But when I find reviews by actual owners, they all seem to like them.

Yeah, certainly not a good case for getting one! But there were a few owners that had no issues.
