Norcold fridge/freezer. will it keep food frozen?

2011 jayco 17 featherlite. has the norcold fridge/freezer. decent size. it has 9 cold settings, I have it under setting 5 right now in driveway... thermometer reads 3 degrees in freezer and 34 in fridge. my question is, how good are these combos at really keeping things cold? should I go up to setting 6 or maybe 7? I want to keep frozen hamburger pattys in freezer next weekend on camping trip and just wondering if this really keeps things frozen. its my first trip so I want to know what to reasonably expect with this setup.. probably have milk/eggs and chicken in the fridge, and the frozen hamburger pattys in the freezer.... sorry about this question, I have never used this fridge before..thanks

  • We have a dometic and it keeps things froze solid in the freezer. We were told it wouldn't keep ice cream but it does almost too good a job.
  • My wife uses a small fan from Camping World in our Dometic to circulate the air. She says it helps cool things that are furthest from the cooling coils. She highly recommends it.
  • thanks hmknight. I was thinking the same thing about being too cold. but got thinking that these numbers are empty fridge.. probably warm up a bit with more food in it.. im gonna run with it next week and see... im sure this is all a trial by error.will be a pro by end of season..LOL..thanks
  • your freezer is currently 29 degrees below freezing. your good, if anything your too cold with refer at 34 degrees, you risk freezing food in the lower portion of the refer
  • ours easily makes ice in the freezer, so yes, it'll keep food frozen.
  • I found the Norcold freezer would not keep Ice Cream and meat frozen "hard", particularly when the outside temperature was in the 90's and above. As a result I replaced the Norcold with a residential refrigerator. As mentioned above keep the door closed, don’t over pack and be sure to start the freezer a minimum of 24 hours in advance.
  • X2 on the bear. As long as you don't overpack it, don't keep open it as often as a house fridge, and keep it level, no issues. I would recommend keeping a small cooler for things that you access a lot like beverages and snacks.
  • If it's working properly it will keep frozen foods frozen in the freezer. It's best not to overload the refrigerator and freezer. You want to load it so there is plenty of air space around the items in the freezer and refrigerator.

My wife always packs it full and then wonders why it's not keeping the food as cold as it should.

You may see a temperature rise when the sun is directly on the side where the refrigerator is located.
