IMO, FOB leaves vehicle, it shuts off in 5 or 10 mins. If you need you vehicle to run to heat it up on winter morning, use FOB from in house to start. And it shuts down after 10-15 mins.
Seems simple to me. Am I overlooking something?
Btw a simple software update can take care of this.
you are over looking something for mne. I leave the keyless Toyo Highlander running when on the road and have the air conditioning on when stopping for lunch or maybe running into walley's for something. The car gets locked up with the bayonet lock key that detaches/pulls out of the key fob. I want to keep my keyless system and the lawyer can throw my 25 centavos in the river. :h

I don't think the car manufacturers were trying to conceal anything, I think they just couldn't conceive of anyone being that dumb. They've been proven wrong!
Let's face it, if we're that concerned about a senior citizen not hearing the car running and leave it on as a previous poster suggests, they should probably bad giving up their license.
One issue I've noticed is that vehicles I've had with regular keys give all kinds of chimes if you open the door with the key in the ignition or ignition running.
My dads lexus with the keyless go does NOTHING if you open the door with engine running, no chime, no buzz, nothing to clue you in that the engine is still running and you left the key in the ignition and the car is still running. IMHO a big oversite and an easy fix to lots of the issues.
and I'll bet most of us are used to car that chimes with the door open and engine running.

At least with keyed ignition vehicles most people need the same key ring to get back in their house when they return home. I don't understand why the vehicles don't shut off when the fob gets over 10 feet from the vehicle. If you need to leave it running then you leave the fob in the vehicle just like you would leave the keys in the ignition on other vehicles.

BTW electric vehicles with the fob also stay running but no CO issues.
Why would an electric vehicle run when you're not driving anywhere?:h

Gee if you start your vehicle in an enclosed garage and you can die???? Good to know.
