I have two motors that depend on clean oil for longevity a 5.4 with cam phasers and a 6.0 Diesel, both are know to have problems with dirty oil. My old Dodge I changed every 10k miles and it's still running around town with mega miles on it.Cummins12V98 wrote:

I change mine with excellent reports every 15k. I KNOW the condition of my oil and engine, very few do.
Easy to keep track of.
Just got my oil analysis back after the oil was in the engine for 3 1/2 years and 14,227 miles. TBN was still >7. I could have left it in there!
Oil analysis will tell you if the oil is "dirty." If you're on this site and you're an enthusiast about keeping your stuff in tip-top shape, I highly recommend you use oil analysis, even if you don't change your oil change habits. It can reveal a problem before it gets expensive and is absolutely worth the cost. - colliehaulerExplorer III

I saw on my 5.7L gas engine, a bit of a jump when I ran to 15k. That time I also used std mobile 1 instead of extended life.
My wife's garage queen, it get changed at 5k... only because I don't like oil sitting in an engine for more than 2 years. - 4x4ordExplorer IIII change my oil for the next owner's benefit. I use synthetic to increase my chances of selling my truck privately at a fair price. For the length of time I plan on owning my truck I'm sure it doesn't make economic sense to change the oil.

Hi,
Opinions on deciding on a brand of oil, and always using that brand? Myth or good practice?
My take is to pick a brand and stick with it. I've read that by switching brands that temporarily wear metals can go up along with some oil consumption on some engines.- GrooverExplorer II

I don't drive as much as many people do but I do typically keep my vehicles 20 years or more. I am approaching 60 and I have never had any major engine issues. I have always used the least expensive namebrand oil that I can find. I still have 3 kids driving cars that I own so I have 3 cars and 3 trucks with several well over 100,000 miles. I see no reason for me to pay for extra for one brand over another or to avoid mixing them. I do it all the time. I do stick with the viscosity of oil that is recommended, that is about it. - pianotunaNomad IIIHi,

The truck in my sig, which I purchased new and maintain according to the owner's manual, has 97,000 miles on it and burns zero oil. Runs great too. - Cummins12V98Explorer III
