Well, I have decided to consider moving to diesel. I have had good luck with my last two Fords, but the new diesel truck prices are well, steep, so I'm also considering used. No 6.0 or 6.4's for me, and the used 6.7s are still pretty pricey as well, so I'm considering other brands. I found a nice '09 D/A LTZ with 63k miles. Haven't talked to dealer yet, and not sure what they want for it, but having no diesel experience I thought I would ask here for opinions on this year/model. Good, or bad what can you tell me? Oh, and also the dealers website says all vehicles get a free drivetrain warranty for as long as you own it. Which is very appealing. I have tomorrow off, so I'm gonna go out and shop. Thank you.

Most diesel engines had emission problems in the 2007-2010 range due to EPA regulations. They all had emission issues, so I'd get something prior to 2006 or after 2010 when the DEF engines came out.

I'd steer clear of Sunset Chevrolet. They're shady in my experience.

They all had emission issues, so I'd get something prior to 2006 or after 2010 when the DEF engines came out.I agree with Rick... the first gen emission diesels had and to some extent still have issues.The big one that stands out to me for the Duramax your considering is the regen process causes excessive diesel fuel getting into the oil (Some call it making oil). If your considering something newer the only DPF equipped truck I would ever consider is one equipped with DEF. If considering something a little older pre DPF trucks is were I would look.

I have a 2008 2500HD Duramax CC 4X4 that I use for work. 103K on it, and it has been more reliable than my personal LBZ. It has not missed a day of work since I picked it up new. All maintenance is done on time and by the book. The mileage is not great about what I get with my 3500 DRW, 17 or so highway, 9-10 pulling a Northwood 28' Desert Fox toyhauler loaded to the limit with equipment. I would not be afraid of the 07.5 through 2010 Duramax trucks, yea they have a DPF and use a little more fuel but is essentially an LBZ with a DPF, certainly not the end of the world.

Agree with Ksss. The LMM platform has been pretty reliable and a LOT of guys delete out the emissions and run some very clean tunes. Mileage gets a lot better...The 2011+ LML is a significant upgrade if you tow heavy. Only downside is the CP4 vs the proven CP3 used on the LMM.

why you're going to diesel
you seem to have the relatively light trailer
Reason I ask is: I'm planning on getting the 6.2 Ford...
Have not been happy with my cheap Chevy interior noise on mine

The only way I know I'm in regen is my turbo pressure drops to a negative at idle per my Scan Gauge II. The exhaust also vets extremely hot according to the bush I scorched at work.

And what emission issue is it that I had, being I never had one.
Mileage seems in line with what the newer ones are getting but they do produce higher torque.

And I have no clue when it is in regen.

Completly disagree with some comments here in regards to LMM trucks having "emissions issues" that are FIXED on LML trucks. Yes DEF improves mileage but it also brings with it a lot more sensors and with that comes an additional set of components that can fail thus putting the truck in limp mode. Lots of reports of DEF related issues still today in LML trucks. LMM trucks are nearly bullet proof and that's coming from an LML owner. And yes I've had to have a DEF tank replaced.

The LML is absolutely a more robust TV but to say it's emissions system is more reliable than an LMM is complete BS.

There are a LOT of high mileage LMM trucks on the road.

Thank you all. After sleeping on it I think I'll find a way to get into a newer truck. I have an appointment this AM at the Ford dealer where I bought my current truck. They seem confident they can find me a new one in my price range :R

That is the dealer JustLabs, I had never heard that, but I'll keep it in mind. Thanks. They're all kinda shady when it comes right down to it.

People tend to take comments too personally at times. A 2009 Duramax is not a bad truck. However the emissions systems have significantly improved since 09.
The result of the improvements is better MPG's and fewer emissions issues.
If one is buying a used truck they can figure these factors into their decision or they can ignore them

Hope someone didn't take my truck to WA state and put it up for sale.

I have the 2009 LTZ Silverado....with circa 70k on it. No worries whatsoever...I let the fuel filter go beyond it's life once and truck went into limp mode, but that was my fault.

I don't say this too often, but I'd listen to the folks that have used the vehicle in question vs. those that haven't.
