So sorry to read about your transmission troubles Burbman! :( Glad you got it fixed though and were not stranded out in the boonies someplace.

Your post makes me wonder about my truck. I have 250,000 miles on it with the original stock transmission. I have maintained mine just about the same as you have, perhaps even a bit more (drain fluid and change filter every 12,000 miles, complete fluid change every third year which is about 36,000). I am wondering if perhaps I should just bite the bullet and get the trans replaced or rebuilt. Like you, it seems to be working fine but sure don't want to get stranded on my trip to Florida next month. You sure got me thinking!!

Most are...they also make (or used) a 2500 model that has the 8.1L big block, 4L80E transmission and 14 bolt full floating rear. The

reason I use the Hensley hitch is to keep it behaving nicely since the burb does have a short wheelbase for a 32' trailer.

Trailer weighs 8500 lbs loaded, I am under all ratings on the truck.

You are correct though that this would be waaay too much trailer for a 1500 burb.

That Suburban has a 12k tow rating. It has a greater payload than Excursion. And can go 200 miles between gas stations!

I've know people where there rear differential went out. They took it apart removed the gears put the truck in 4 High and drove that way for weeks until they could get the differential fixed. Not good for the transfer case but, it worked.
