Passthrough Storage - Slide Out Drawer Mod
I've lurked here for a long time and finally decided to join, so I could share a few of the mods I've done recently.
I think the idea for this one came from a post I saw here. We wanted a better way to keep the front pass through storage area more organized and I have seen this kind of thing both as factory option on some rigs and as an mod. So I decided to make one. I figured it would eliminate a lot of space on the sides of the drawer, and under the drawer. It was a compromise we were willing to make for better organization. As it turns out what I thought would be "lost" areas are quite handy for certain items. On the sides of the drawer I keep my leveling boards, under the drawer I keep my back up jack & slide wrenches.
I used 3/4" pine of the drawer sides, 1/2" plywood for the drawer bottom, 2" casters for the rollers, and 2x4's for the drawer runners. The wheels carry the load and the runners keep it tracking straight and from tipping if extended out too far. I feel comfortable extending just a bit past half way and I can roll it out from either side.
After the first short camping trip, we love it already! I hope this gives others some inspiration to go for this mod!
