Both the 2500 and 3500 SRW are rated to tow 17,000 at max tow rating, even with different axles. I'm not sure it really matters if 3000 is in the bed and 14K is behind it, or 2000 is in the bed and 15K is behind it.
The 11.8" axle comes with the high output and Aisin. A standard SRW 3500 has an 11.5" axle.
