OK, I will weigh in on this. The Aisin Tranny is only available on the 3500. So getting the 3500 so you can add the optional Aisin tranny is the way to go. If you are concerned about ride differences opt for the rear air suspension. Win win all the way around as Russ noted. We have a 2015 SB 4x4 3500 with leaf spring rear. For us the ride empty is fine. It is firm, but our 2001.5 was that way for 14 years. I will be putting Rancho 9000 shocks on the rear at some point. They worked well on the 2001.5. Chris
