Some good advice has been given, but I'll add that if for some reason you DO want to stay under the GVWR for your vehicle, there are still lots of options. For example, a Wolf Creek 850 should come in somewhere around 3,100 lbs wet with options and 300 lbs of gear. That still leaves you 800 lbs for passengers. Lance and other manufacturers have lots of non-slide units that will work. For a long-bed TC with a slide to stay under GVWR is not going to be possible in your situation, but you would be only a few hundred over with a Lance 950S, which should come in around 3,850 lbs wet with gear, so you will only be over by the weight of the passenger(s).
