I had lived in PA / MD for most of my life while growing up, so I thought my year over there was nothing different than home in terms of weather. Hot and humid in summer and winter plenty cold enough for some snow and general cold weather pains, but no big snow.....no big deal.
I remember a January field exercise got canceled when the water buffalo froze with a fire next to it - it was about 18*F.
I always kinda thought the big deal they make outta weather in the military at any given post has more to do with the fact that service members come from all types of different weather regions of their homes which could be an extreme change for them.
