The new Rams are towing beasts. Unfortunately the Ram trucks have had crummy brakes for years. Besides the the hard pressure required the proportioning is way to front brake heavy, especially when loaded, and it gets even worse with the factory rear air bags. You get the historically loose/vauge Dodge Ram steering thrown in as a free bonus. They've got a lot of flaws but the engine/drivetrain combo just make it all worthwhile towing through the mountains. That said I'd want more power if I had to put an overweight B&W hitch in the bed....:D
My 11 HO Dually brakes "felt" better than my 15 but as NC says if you need to STOP that are up to the task!
I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about when saying "Besides the the hard pressure required the proportioning is way to front brake heavy, especially when loaded, and it gets even worse with the factory rear air bags." I have rear air ride and don't see it effecting braking at all.
I don't get this either "You get the historically loose/vauge Dodge Ram steering thrown in as a free bonus." my steering in the 11 and now 15 is VERY tight and precise. Now my 98 did benefit from a steering stabilizer and new tighter steering box but that is MANY years ago.
32,500# going down the road with a ridiculously heavy hitch in the bed and I have no need for more power.
Sounds like you just need to sell that POS RAM you have and put that light weight hitch in another tow vehicle.
What is the need that you , Me Again, and NC Hauler want to defend such a silly thing as what brand of truck you happened to chose.
Have been very happy with the Ram truck other then the ridiculous amount of recalls, but find
no need to try to defend my choice of trucks. What is it with some of you Ram owners.
I apologize if I offended you because I wanted to say something about MY personal experience with MY Ram truck when it comes to brakes and steering...sorry it rubbed you the wrong way...BUT, I don't even QUALIFY to be a "fanboy"...never owned a 5.9...never owned a Dodge Ram truck until about 6 yrs ago...If you check post out for first 6 yrs I was on here I was a Chevy fan boy, (35 yrs with their) trucks, then I had Dodge and Ford guys mad at me...NOW I have Dodge/Ram guys chewing on me...I'll try not to offend you as one of the "perpetrators" who is kinda proud of #3...Heck, was treated better by Ford guy's when I owned the Chevy's...Can't win for losing on the RV.Net forums...buddies hard to come by around here...Guess at my age, I'm too stupid to figure it out....maybe you ought to block me so you don't have to put up with my pathetic post...
