- hokeypokeyExplorerWe sold our Chalet so I have no pictures but DH is a handy guy to have around.
Previously, cooking pans had to be stored in the one and only compartment located towards the front, between the dinette seats. It opened at the top and it was a nightmare bending down and fishing through it to find what I needed. IT HAD TO GO ! We removed the dinette seats and stored them away. They were replaced with newly made smaller seats that accommodated 1 person on each side (not 2 per). One side had a porta potty under the cushion for midnight accommodations.
Then we made and installed a cabinet made from oak plywood which reached from side to side with 2 sliding doors. We decided sliders were better than doors on hinges that opened into the camper. Now we have storage for groceries, dishes AND cooking pans. Hooray ! Cabinet was maybe 10 or 12 inches deep, stained and varnished to match the interior wood, so we gained a new surface on top too. Cabinet covered an outlet but DH wired an outlet from it to the new cabinet top so we didn't lose the outlet. Great for recharging station or a place to put a crockpot. We didn't carry a table, we each use a lap tray if we ate inside and our beverages can sit on coasters on top of the new cabinet.
At the floor level, he used more oak plywood to make what I would call a cubby hole with no door. There was a 3" lip up from the floor and the same down from the top that ran from side to side. This held water jugs, etc. securely while we traveled.
We never use the sink so we took a piece of scrap countertop and added 4 legs so it just cleared the faucet. It's large enough to cover the whole area to the left of the stove and gave me wonderful counter space. It's removed for travel.
Then he made 2 metal brackets that hooked into the frame above the cooking area and we lay a piece of wire shelving on the brackets and 3 plastic dishpans fit up there. Dirty dishes go in one and I only wash dishes once a day. Again, brackets, shelf and dishpans are moved down for travel.
We stored the sofa cushions away and added a good, futon mattress. Bed stayed made up all the time - only way to go ! I was going to shop for plastic totes for clothes and towel storage under the bed but I discovered 4 cardboard apple boxes fit perfectly and served the purpose nicely at no cost. They slide out just like a drawer.
We traded camper in on something bigger and the dealership was amazed at our projects. We took some unforgettable trips and I miss that little camper ! - gheicherExplorerHere's some pics of my Aliner mods. Jerry's Campers
- Woody7ExplorerPersonally --- I don't see the need for two dormers since the bed is at one end. We just bought a Chalet XL 1935 with the dormer. What I like regarding the issue of Chalet vs Aliner (I've owned one of each prior to this purchase) is that the Chalet dormer is a hard side dormer. The Aliner is canvas. Friends don't let friends do canvas. We had an issue with the door sticking and not closing all the way. So ... this week we went to the Chalet manufacturer in Albany, Oregon and factory people were so helpful. They expect to get the factory up and running soon. I have no issue with buying from Chalet. They have been super.
- AlwaysTravelinExplorerI am leaning toward the Aliner because of the 2 dormers. i like having alot of light and air coming thru.
thanks for the other suggestions.... i'll check them out - ElBesoBlancoExplorerBesides Chalet and Aliner, there is also Rockwood, Flagstaff, Jayco and Starcraft that makes A-Frame trailers. Many choices, many floor plans.
Just a heads up, from what i ha e been reading, Chalet still having issues with their reorganization, doesn't seem to be an ideal time for purchase or support from them at the present.Be patient and be aware. Hopefully they restructure and get back on track soon. Seems to be a nice product they offer...and truth be told, even buying new - there will always be little things to shake down and discover might need tweaking upon using any new rv. - AlwaysTravelinExplorerI dont have my A frame yet.... still in the process of trying to decide between the Chalet and the Aliner.
i was just looking for interior ideas.
thanks for the information... i'll check it out. - ElBesoBlancoExplorerCheck out Pinterest. I have an A-Frame board with collected interior mods of mine as well as others. There is also a FB group for Pop Up Glamping and Camping that has interior photos and ideas.
I've yet to successfully figure out how to post photos to this site,so the best I can say is to visit on Pinterest or FB AFrame forums.Ive also posted many pictures to the Forest River A-Frame group.
What sort of ideas are you looking for? What kind of A-Frame do you have? - AlwaysTravelinExplorerHEY GREAT ! thanks very much for your posts ... i appreciate it.
- lasttruckExplorerThere are a couple of groups on Facebook that has a lot of pictures of interior mods and decorating along with 3 Yahoo groups that I am aware of.
There are links to a few of them in the top menu of our blog. - beemerphile1ExplorerCheck out; http://aliner.teahaus.us/
I've met Lynn in person and seen her Alite, she is very creative and documents her modifications well.
Here is another; http://theoleguy.blogspot.com/
Dave has done some interesting stuff.
There are also a couple of forums that are a lot more relative to A-frames and popups than this one.

I have done many mods to ours but I focus primarily on functionality. I keep things simple and minimize work needed in the setup and fold down process. Mods like shelves and decorations just create a lot of extra setup work in my opinion.
You have seen pictures of my trailer on the AOC website.
