I assume this means my empty truck weighs 10,000 - 3,104 = 6896. That doesn't match anything else I've found.

Typically this number (3104) includes all the basic truck stuff and all accessories and options at the time the truck was built. As others have indicated go to the scales. Brochure and tow guide weights will always be a little different as they often are based on the basic truck. Many have found the yellow sticker is within twenty or so pounds of real scale weights.
