Pops breaker

Just got my unit out of storage . When hooking up to the landline . The breaker pops . Also the generator won't start . Don't know if these two are Connected in some way . Need some help!
  • Start checking for loose connections of wires that mice might have chewed.
  • Are you saying the breaker pops on the shore power circuit? If so, turn off all of your camper's AC breakers, plug into shore power, and turn on the breakers, one at a time, starting with the main breaker. Narrow down which camper circuit is causing the problem.
  • Have isolated problem . Cut off main breaker in camper , breaker didn't pop . Think it maybe the auto transfer switch . It' the only thing that the shore line an gen have in common. Where is it located?
  • Were all the other AC breakers (in the camper) off, when you islolated the main as the problem circuit? If they were on, the problem could be in one of them.

I too, think it's a mouse issue. They like that plastic covering from romex wires. Look for chewed wires. Disconnect shore power and look everywhere you can see any AC wiring. Including, behind the converter. You already know, the short is not between shore power connection and camper's power panel / converter.
  • According to the wiring diagram in the OM once the main is open ,in the camper, the only thing that the gen an shoreline have in common is the transfer switch . I just don't know where to look for the TS. Any suggestions?

I am sure this is true, but It could be any one of the circuits in the TC. What is being suggested is to turn of all TC breakers except the main. Turn on shore power. If it does not break, turn on each TC breaker one at a time. It will trip the breaker if it is one of those circuits. If it breaks with each of the TC breakers, then probably the transfer switch.

  • Gen probably won't start due to low battery........

AC breaker tripping is due to other issue. As suggested turn off ALL AC circuit breakers then plug in........close CBs one at a time until source breaker trips.

    Location of transfer switch........?

You would need to trace where shore power line goes and where generator power line goes..........or trace back from main ac power panel.
All three will end up at the transfer switch
  • The transfer switch is between the breaker panel and shore power/generator. By turning off the main breaker in the panel, you have disconnected power to the individual breakers, not the transfer switch.
