Not necessarily. The OP has STILL not identified just which Tekonsha controller he has ... some believe it to be a P2 but if that were the case there's no "synching" required, as the OP referred to in his post - just plug the trailer into the TV and adjust the controller to suit. However, if this is indeed a Prodigy RF then the handheld control unit must first be "synched" to the power box mounted on the trailer and in that case the trailer must not be plugged into the TV for initial setup. The devil is in the details and until the OP correctly identifies just which controller he has all anyone here can do is guess, which in turn can result in erroneous advice being offered.
